Profile
Sharon Candy is a Sydney-based contemporary artist. Predominantly self-taught, Sharon finds freedom in creating on her own terms.
“Painting is an emotional landscape and an artistic process. Granted, I have also had the pleasure to paint with and learn from amazing talented artists: Idris Murphy, Ross Laurie, Jo Bertini, Catherine Cassidy, Tonee Messiah, and Antonia Perricone Mrljak.”
Sharon has participated in art residencies with fellow artists in the Hunter Valley, Kelton Plains, Cooma, and Ross River, NT. Sharon’s paintings are held in collections around Australia and internationally, and her works have featured in numerous publications including Inside Out Magazine, Australian House & Garden, SMH Domain Magazine, The Design Files, The Daily Telegraph Home Magazine, and Adore Magazine.
Under The Canopy Of Stars
Under the Canopy of Stars is an exhibition of paintings that search to capture the essence of landscape and its contrasting rawness and beauty. The works were developed from reference diaries of paintings and drawings made while in remote areas of Australia. Ideas and emotions are instinctually processed into paintings back in the artist’s studio.
“My works change from being related to a place, to forging their own identity. Erasing the realism of the landscape to reveal image and form, deconstruction of the subject matter to allow line and mark making. The works are abstractly painted to reveal notions of landscape seen and journeyed, expressing the vastness of the land and the ever-present limitless skies of stars.” – Sharon Candy, 2022
